Adverse Weather Alert - Winter Weather News

12/15/10, 11:50 a.m.

Forecasters predict the possibility of snow and freezing precipitation tonight and tomorrow morning. Following are reminders about the University's adverse weather plans:

Announcements about a change in the University's operations will be posted to www.unc.edu. Unless a change is announced, the University always operates under Condition 1 - regular schedule. (classes will be held; offices will be open)

FINAL EXAM NOTE:  Thursday, Dec. 16, is a final examination day and any weather announcements about classes cover exams. At this point, students and faculty should expect exams to be held tomorrow and be prepared to add extra travel time to campus in the event of adverse weather. University grounds and facility crews are spraying brine this morning to campus sidewalks and streets. Sand and salt equipment will be on standby tonight for use if needed in the morning. Chapel Hill officials are taking similar steps in preparation for possible adverse weather.

Employees (SPA and EPA non-faculty) are reminded of the University's Adverse Weather Policy. Emergency employees should report for work. Other employees are responsible for their regular duties, making up any missed work time, and making their own decisions about work based on personal safety.

UNC uses three main adverse weather operating conditions:  Condition 1 (open), Condition 2 (classes canceled; offices open) or Condition 3 (classes canceled; offices closed). Reports of state government closings do not apply to the University. The University announces adverse weather news on www.unc.edu, the campus information sources listed below, and through the news media.
