Alert Carolina Crime Alert: UNC Police Investigating Shots Fired between Cars on South Rd

UNC STUDENTS, STAFF, AND FACULTY:

UNC Police is investigating a report of gunshots exchanged between passengers of two separate moving vehicles as traveled along South Road on the UNC campus just prior to 7 p.m. this evening (Sunday, June 7).

One vehicle was a silver sedan and the other was a red Nissan Altima. The red Altima was making right turn onto Raleigh Street.  A passenger in the silver sedan shot at the Altima while traveling straight on South Road, westbound toward South Columbia Street.  The red Altima was last seen on Raleigh Street heading toward Franklin Street, while the silver sedan was last seen heading toward South Columbia Street.  One bystander’s car was hit by the silver sedan and talking to UNC Police officers.  There are several bullet casings on the ground.

There are no reports of injuries as a result of the shooting at this time. As the area has now been cleared, UNC Police believes there is not a continuing threat to campus, as the vehicles are known to have left the area.  The Carolina community is encouraged to report any and all suspicious activity or to provide any information which may be aid in the investigation by calling 9-1-1.
